Thanks for joining me!
Good company on a journey makes the way seem shorter – Izaak Walton.
“We seek him here, we seek him there….”
I wrote my first adaptation of The Scarlet Pimpernel when I was 12 years old. My teacher said she’d enjoyed it but ‘it wasn’t the best choice for an all-girls’ school show…
The Scarlet Pimpernel is the original superhero – the inspiration for the dual identity Batman/Spiderman type characters.
The story was originally produced for the stage in 1903, before Baroness Orczy’s novels were published. The critics hated it. It ran for years.
It’s since been adapted for film, radio, television and musical theatre. There’s even a ballet version…
My new, swashbuckling stage adaptation has already had a successful rehearsed reading in Glasgow with a professional cast, directed by Jennifer Dick, Associate Director of Bard in the Botanics.
‘Those Frenchies seek him everywhere…”
Many theatre productions only happen owing to the generosity of donors.
So I am raising funds for a week-long showcase in Edinburgh with the aim of attracting investment so we can take the play on tour and ultimately to the West End.
I need £80,000 to cover the capitalisation costs.
“Is he in heaven, is he in hell?”
This blog will record my efforts to raise this money – what works, what doesn’t work, the ups and the downs.
‘That damned elusive Pimpernel.”
